The United States Social Forum II in Detroit, in the Peoples Movement Assembly process approved a resolution at the Puerto Rico PMA and at the National People Movement Assembly, making September 23, 2010 a national and international day of solidarity with the self determination of the people of Puerto Rico and demanding immediate de-colonialization of Puerto Rico by the United States.

September 23 is the Grito de Lares which marks the revolutionary uprising and establishment of an Independent government of the nation of Puerto Rico a Latin American Nation and a nation of the Antilles in 1867.  Puerto Rico has been fighting for independence against the Spanish empire and now United States Imperialism holding it as a colony (called commonwealth).  Puerto Rico has been a colony for 518 years since 1492.

September 23 will also be the date of the United Nations assembly to hear the case for the de-colonialization of Puerto Rico.  The national and international day of action is in coordination with the Grito de Lares, but also with the United Nations date on Puerto Rico right to self-determination.
